Eclectic Mainline 28th April 2010

OK, OK, so I’ve not been very quick of the mark with First Aid Kit, but I’m with it now.  Having bought their album on Record Store Day, and having listened to it almost every day since, I figured it was about time I snuck something in to my show.  I could have played either I Met Up With The King, or Hard Believer, both equally brilliant.  However, as Emma and Maria played the latter in Buffet on Saturday, my choice was made for me.   Have a lookie here if you’ve not heard it yet…

And here’s what else I played in tonight’s show:

Roky Erickson with Okkervil River – “Devotional Number One” (LP – “True Love Cast Out All Evil”) (Chemikal Underground)
Jamie Lidell – “The Ring” (single and LP – “Compass”) (Warp)
The School – “I Want You Back” (LP – “Loveless Unbeliever”) (Elefant Records)
Sleepy Sun – “Open Eyes” (EP – “Open Eyes”) (ATP)
The Travelling Band – “Sundial” (single) (Sideways Saloon)
HEALTH – “USA Boys” (free download here)
Davey Graham – “Joy Of My Heart” (LP – “Playing In Traffic”) (Probe Plus)
Dum Dum Girls – “Pay For Me” (single) (Sub Pop)
Flying Lotus – “Computer Face//Pure Being” (LP – “Cosmogramma”) (Warp)
First Aid Kit – “I Met Up With The King” (LP – “The Big Black and The Blue”) (Wichita)
Recoil – “The Killing Ground” (LP – “Selected”) (Mute)
Phosphorescent – “Nothing Was Stolen (Love Me Foolish) (LP “Here’s To Taking It Easy”) – (Dead Oceans)
Maika Makovski – “Devil Tricks” (LP – “Maika Makovski”) (Origami)
Neu! – “Good Life” (LP – “Neu! ’86) (Grönland)
Quack Quack – “Perpetual Spinach” (LP – “Slow As An Eyeball” (Cuckundoo)
Surfer Blood – “Swim” (single) (Kanine)
White Hinterland – “Icarus” (LP – “Kairos”) (Dead Oceans)

Excellent show as always, Albert. We didn’t purposely pip you to the post with First Aid Kit! I was told they sing with American accents because they immersed themselves in Bright Eyes and Conor Oberst, which i think is very sweet.

Thanks Maria! I didn’t feel at all pipped at the post though, I’m just glad that there is someone else at BCB championing this band. That’s interesting about their Bright Eyes obsession, I didn’t know about. Their Swedishness shines through on a couple of tracks with count-ins though, where they say “Ett, TvÃ¥, Tre, Fyra” and that’s quite endearing too.
