News has reached us of the death of Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart.

He is said to have died of complications from multiple sclerosis.

A tribute is due. And we will bring it, starting next week as we explore the albums, one every week.

Meanwhile…

Click Clack, live in Paris in 1973

A truly GREAT clip, they’re all enjoying themselves so much. Was this the tour that came through Bradford in the early 70s? n blew our socks off? Best gig and tightest band I’ve ever seen. Better than Miles Davis.

Alastair Johnson comments: “I think it was 1973. John Peel introduced them at Newcastle City Hall and Liverpool had just beaten N’cle 5-nil… so there was tension in the air when Peelie came on. First there was a ballet dancer (with no music), then a belly dancer, then Rockette Morton came on playing bass, then Ed Marimba, John French, Winged Eel Fingerling joined in, and it was about 20 mins before Beefie appeared. It was one of the best gigs ever!”

Electricity

Singin through you to me
Thunderbolts caught easily
Shouts the truth peacefully
Electricity

High voltage man kisses night to bring the light to those who need to hide their shadow deed
Go into bright find the light and know that friends don’t mind just how you grow

Midnight cowboy stained in black reads dark roads without a map
To free-seeking electricity

Lighthouse beacon straight ahead straight ahead across black seas to bring
Seeking electricity

High voltage man kisses night to bring the light to those who need to hide their shadow-deed hide their shadow-deed
Seek electricity………..
