TMTY Playlist – 07.09.09

An interesting start to this week’s show for all you ethnomusicologists…
Japanese Dancehall?
Thoughts?
I guess it’s no stranger than English Dancehall when you think about it but this kind of thing does seem to polarise people—
A wonderfully executed soundtrack to a well connected global village, or shameless musical tourism?
It sounds great anyway, which is my main criteria.

‘Akane – Dancehall Head’

Sweet video too.

In a nice, though accidental, continum of that theme we played the new teaser single from everyone’s favourite posh yank aphrophiles (is that even a word..?)

‘Vampire Weekend – Horchata’

You can get it for free at THEIR WEBSITE.

Here’s a recipe to make yourself a Horchata too, I had many when I was in Barcelona this summer.

We then played this little feel good afrobeat monster-
(Prompting me to ask KC off air- Why is it that every culture other than English can make happy music that is somehow not cheesy? – he had no answer…)
‘Basti Grub – El Latino’

Album out now apparently.

We then played an old singing the news as Pat is down in London town.

KC’s Backrow Banter reviewed:
Away We Go – 8.5/10
away-we-go
The Invention of Lying – 6/10

and Mid-August Lunch – 7/10

We finished with –
‘The Do- On My Shoulders (WILDLIFE remix)’

    Away we go….
Awful…very unconvincing characters, poorly acted. Predictable at every turn in an irritating fashion. Main guy as wet as the lake district in monsoon season just wanted to slap him.

Oh and on top of that one of the worst soundtracks to a film ever.

    Adam!
