When Big Joan Sets Up 21st March – Vivians’ Valedictory

On the day that people who tie their jumpers round their necks and have share portfolios rejoiced that indolent, caterwauling Radio 2 uber-bore Kate Bush has remembered what her job is, Big Joan wiped a tear from it’s metaphorical eye and bade farewell to the mighty Vivian Girls with highlights of their final live performance recorded at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg, New York at the beginning of the month.

For those unaware the Vivs are (were) a three piece band who between 2008 and 2011 released three astonishing LP’s and seven equally astonishing 7″ singles that sounded like the Shangri La’s covering Nirvana’s “Bleach” whilst being force-fed Wonka Bars.

To leaven the emotional tension we also had a host of top tunes including three from that golden year 1916. Where were you?

NB: As nyctaper.com objected to the use of the Vivian Girls material I’ve taken it down. You can hear the full gig at their website.

Why are you stealing our recording is putting it up your own soundcloud, re-labeled, without giving any credit on soundcloud. I see you put the website link in this post, but its not even a hyperlink.

All without asking permission. I’m sending a takedown notice to your ISP.

For the sake of clarification, it was on Mixcloud and as per nyctaper’s request it has been removed with apologies. I’m not actually sure what he means by “re-labeled” but there was no attempt by me,or by association BCB, to claim that it came from anywhere other than nyctaper.com. The track list on the Mixcloud was copied and pasted from the one on here so the assertion that no credit was given is not correct. The text was the same on both, although it may have been harder to discern on the Mixcloud format. The reason that there isn’t a hyperlink on this page is because I don’t actually know what a hyperlink is,but I assume that he means a link that you can click on that takes you directly to the page. If that’s the case the reason there isn’t one is because I don’t have the technical ability to put one on. That may or may not be an excuse but it’s true.In hindsight I should have also mentioned on the programme where I obtained the recording and I didn’t. That was a mistake and I apologise. I’ve used free-to-download live recordings before and this the first time that anyone has objected. I will not use any of nyctaper’s material in future and will ensure that proper permission is obtained and credit given for any we use from anywhere else. My intent was only to give people in Bradford ,who would have been unlikely to be able to attend a gig in New York, a chance to hear some of an important gig from a band we have supported for throughout their career. I didn’t mean to upset anyone and I’m sorry that I appear to have inadvertently done so.
