Listen Up is BCB’s Youth Music funded project for young people aged 12 – 25 years old that are interested in radio broadcasting. We have a dedicated Youth Development Worker, Dipak Mistry, who works with young people in the community and at the station to help them create radio.
Listen Up aims to support young people build confidence, advance their communication skills and develop broadcasting skills.
Listen Up will work with young people to learn the skills to broadcast – this will involve planning a broadcast, learning to “drive” the studio desk, develop presenting and interviewing skills, recording, listening, editing and being ready to broadcast.
Once young people have developed the skills and confidence to broadcast they can pre-record a show that will be aired on BCB Xtra (Monday to Sunday 6.30pm-7.00pm) or in other parts of the broadcast schedule. Listen Up will also create opportunities do take part in live and outside broadcasts.
We recommend that young people under 18 come and visit us at BCB in the first instance and will need consent from a parent or guardian to participate in Listen Up.
