Issue Log:

Friday 10th June 2021

We continue to have play out problems following the power outage on Wednesday. One of our backup play out systems is not working correctly, so we’re experiencing significant periods of ‘dead air’ – if you hang on the expected audio should be back after a short while. This will have been happening since Wednesday, through Thursday and continues.

This will effect all services: Live on the internet and FM, and on Listen Again.

There is a plan to switch to another play out system sometime today, but we may not be able to return to normal service until next week.

Wednesday 9th June 2021

Due to a power failure on some of the equipment in our main broadcast studio, we broke the chain of transmission. So while our computers were playing out content, it was not making it to the transmitter or the listen live service.

As we’re still working remotely it took some time to get a fix sorted out, as we needed to have people on site. We think that we were off air for roughly 14 hours from 9:30pm the previous day.

We’re back on, but there will be some programmes missing from our listen again service.

Tuesday 16th February 2021

We have been notified of an issue with our internet based services. The provider that relays our broadcast to listen live services seems to have been down. As it has come back up, not all services have been resumed, so depending on how you listen you may or may not be getting a signal.
This should be fixed soon.

Friday 27th November 2020

Our main internet connection went down around 6pm on Thursday. BCB Technical staff were unable to respond until 11am this morning. Backup systems for the audio to the internet did not kick in. A backup system was rebooted remotely so we were on air before staff arrived.

Wednesday 4th November 2020

A box in the station froze up meaning that our internet traffic and and out of the building was blocked. This means that we have had outages on our listen live and listen again over the last 24 hours. Normal service was resumed around 3pm today.

Monday 22nd June 2020

We’ve changed the behind the scenes link to the listen again/listen live stream with the CMA, who host the stream, last week. This resulted in some patchy downtime during the week effecting listen again listings and some listen live services. We also had to update this information with third party providers like Radioplayer, meaning the listen live service was not available on some platforms for a day or two.

Monday 8th June 2020

We received reports of intermittent service on some internet streaming devices over the weekend. We are unable to replicate this today. Reports were from different platforms, but some reports said that it was fine on a different device, leading us to believe it was not a problem at our end. The CMA who redisrtibute our stream have not found problems either.

Monday 6th April 2020

We lost the internet service again over the weekend. Our contingency service is still in it’s infancy, so we had some outages on our web services, but not as much as you would expect with no internet connection at all. It came back, but has gone again. In the mean time our listen live and listen again services should be operating fairly well.

Tuesday 31st March 2020

We’ve had a long period of stability with some very short internet outages that have not really been worth reporting. In recent days however, we have had more significant internet outages (66hrs over the weekend). Our FM signal continues to work well, and we implemented a fix that sourced the internet signal in a different way to get us back on line. In the coming days we may have some short outages as we test a  new system.

Tuesday 17th December 2019

We have had issues since the end of August, but they have been very rare and short lived. Our broadband service seems to be much more reliable, with very little downtime in recent weeks. Our last significant outage was less than an hour in late October.

Minor outages can mean shows on our listen again service are not available in full, but there seems to be very little we can do about this without major investment in a different service.

Tuesday 27th August 2019

The website went down over the bank holiday weekend. Out of our control. Server was rebooted on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday 21st August 2019

We believe there was a power cut overnight yesterday which meant our FM, and Listen Live services were unavailable. Listen Again would have been working throughout, but any shows broadcast from approx 10pm Monday 20th August until 9am this morning will not have been captured for listen again.

Our resilience to small ‘brown out’ power surges is pretty good, but not so good with full power cuts. A full power cut will kill the automatic play-out systems and when they come back up, they need a human to restart them. As such our FM broadcast was re-established this morning as staff arrived. Listen Again and Listen live services came back up around 10 am.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Internet Update:

We continue to suffer significant outages from our main internet service provider, which means we are relying on the back up service more and more to be our main route of audio to the listen live and listen again services. This service also has it’s own blips, which can mean significant portions of shows may not appear on the service. If there is a show you would like to hear that is not available on the listen again service please contact us.

27th May until 3rd June 2024

We had a brief period where our website was down for redesign, rebuild and general maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, but the new website will give a much better user experience.

Monday 15th – Monday 29th July 2019

We’ve again experienced significant amounts of downtime on the internet connection.

We now have a backup service that we can fall over to, but this is not 100% perfect. However with this in place we do seem to be getting less interuption in the listen live and listen again services, but there is still interruption. (For example the main internet service was down for 24 hours over Thursday 24th – Friday 25th, but much of the listen again service is available during that time).

Friday 12th – Monday 15th July 2019

We’ve had significant downtime on the internet into the station over the weekend.

We do have a back up system in place now which allows our listen live service to work (and feeds the listen again) but we can’t use it all the time. We should have had listen live throughout the Festival broadcasts.

We also suffered a database outage on our website on Sunday meaning our main website was unvailable until Monday mid-morning.

The internet is currently off, but we’re expecting an engineer out to visit us soon.

Friday 28th June – Monday 8th July 2019

We suffered a number of problems in the last week.

A website upgrade took our website off-line for a number of days meaning access to our listen live and listen again was difficult. We were still streaming via apps, and the listen again service was available, but links to those services were not there.

At the same time we suffered numerous internet outages from our provider, Virgin Media. This meant the listen live and listen again services were significantly effected during those times.

Monday 22nd April 2019

We lost the internet connection to and from the station around 7pm and we were offline for just over an hour. Listen live service would have been unavailable and listen again services will be unavailable for that time.

Saturday 30th March – Sunday 31st March 2019

Our listen live and listen again services were up and down over the weekend. This follows further problems with the router and the listen again software needing to be restarted. We continue to monitor the situation.

Tuesday 26th March 2019

The power supply to the router died this morning killing all internet services. We replaced the power pack around 12:30pm. We had a short outage this evening as the automated play-out system “rebooted itself” around 7pm. This will have effected broadcasts on all services.

Friday March 8th 2019

We lost our firewall late on Thursday and only managed to get something in place (temporarily) around 6pm. As a result all of our internet services were down. We have uploaded the shows for International Women’s Day to the website. We expect to have some downtime when we fix this for good.

Saturday 23rd February 2019

We had an outage on the Virgin Media service that supplies the internet to our premises on Saturday from approx 2pm -4pm. The listen live service was unavailable and listen again will be effected for those times as well.

Apologies, but problems with our ISP are beyond our control.

Fri. 25th – Sat. 26th January 2019

We had some weird gremlin in the machines over the weekend which caused our play-out system to stutter around the hour, and led to the schedule running late throughout the day. Manual attempts to fix may have caused further skips or repeats of audio. We apologise for this.

We believe normal service was resumed around 8pm on Saturday

Fri. 28th – Sun. 30th September 2018

We’ve had more intermittent outages on the Virgin Media service that supplies the internet to our premises over the weekend. The listen live service was unavailable and listen again will be effected for those times as well.

Apologies, but problems with our ISP are beyond our control.

Sun. 19th August 2018

We had an outage on the Virgin Media service that supplied the internet to our premises from approx 1pm to 3:30pm. The listen live service was unavailable and listen again will be effected for those times as well.

Apologies, but problems with our ISP are beyond our control.

Sun. 22nd July 2018

Shows were running 8 mins late, but in full, on Sunday evening following an over run on a live sports broadcast earlier in the day.

Fri. 20th July 2018

A brief internet outage around 9am has meant that the listen again service for the 9am -10am show will not be available.

Sun. 15th July 2018

We had some dead air for around 45 minutes as we ended our festival coverage. This seems to have been down to human error.

Tue. 10th July 2018

Some people are reporting low or fluctuating levels on the FM broadcast signal. We’re investigating. At the moment we think all is well at the station. Investigations are under way at the transmitter.

Sat. 7th – Mon. 9th July 2018

Listen again link has changed to https not http. This is a change by our external provider that we were not aware of. It meant that people going to the old address were getting a a 404 message. We’ve update the main links from the website so hopefully people are directed correctly now.

Mon. 2nd July 2018

We’re fixing the broken kit today including our transmitter and some internal equipment in our sound distribution chain. There will be sporadic minor  interruptions throughout the day. We expect things to be right by the early evening.

27th June 2018

We had reports of a distorted broadcast signal this morning (thanks Adam!). This was due to the airing a repeat of a live broadcast from yesterday that became distorted as we recorded it yesterday. The recording was part of the signal chain affected by the change of a piece of failed hardware.

26th June 2018

We continue to have problems following on from the issues yesterday. We’ve had some downtime as we continue to replace repaired and failing hardware. We’ve also had to adjust broadcast levels, but as of 6pm today we think all is well.

25 June 2018

4:50pm – we got the FM signal back up earlier, but caused numerous interruptions in the mean time. The failure was due to a distribution amplifier in our system dying on us. This feeds the signal from our studios to the rest of the world. This brought down both the streaming services and the FM signal. We were able to re-route the streaming signal, but the broadcast signal took a bit more diagnosis. Again, apologies for any inconvenience.

13:55 – we’ve lost out FM signal which has also affected out digital signal. We’ve re-routed the signal to the digital players so you should be able to listen online.

22nd – 25th June 2018

We lost our streaming service around 4:30pm on Friday 22nd June and re-instated it on Monday 25th around 9:30am. This was due to an internal IT issue. This will have had the knock on effect of disrupting the listen again services meaning that anything broadcast during that time will not be available on listen again. Apologies for any inconvenience.

14th June 2018

We have been informed of a missing part of a the Yorkshire Music Collective show on the Listen Again service around 22:53. This is probably due to an interruption in  the broadband service to the building which is beyond our control. Normal service seems to have been restored around 23:00, Apologies.

5th – 9th June 2018

We are aware that our Listen Again service was quiet during this period. We are unsure as to why. There are a number of parts in the chain that serves this audio and we don’t think it was anything we did. We were not notified of any issues by our partner services.

All seems well again now tho.

31st May 2018

Our website was down from 06:49 to 09:51 today.

This would have made it hard to access our listen again and listen live services, although those services were still running, so anyone accessing them by other means (e.g. Radioplayer App, or via direct URL) should not have been affected.

Update: We think it was because Jonathan Pinfield went viral that day!

16th May 2018

Our transmitter was found to be faulty and has been replaced by a temporary one while we get it fixed. This explains recent interruptions to service on the FM signal, but all is well again now.

15th May 2018

We experienced some interruption to our FM signal with short outages around 9:30am, 10:20am and 11am. We are monitoring this.

13th April 2018

All internet services are back to normal following work carried out by Virgin Media.

4th – 12th April 2018

We’re experiencing problems with our internet provider Virgin Media which means we have intermittent broadband.

This affects our listen again and listen live services meaning some shows will not be available live online or via listen again.

We apologise for this, but it’s out of our hands.

14th March 2018

We think we had a brief power outage overnight on (date) this meant there was no FM broadcast for 8 hours overnight. We were able to broadcast from 9am, and to return to our advertised schedule at 10am.
