Ian has lived in Bradford since 1982, when he arrived to volunteer for a homeless project. He worked in further education for 22 years, until 2014.
He presents In Your Backyard, with Malc Currie, in the About Bradford slot on Fridays.
He has many interests – reading, art, music, gardening, DIY, camping and walking are just a few of them. His passion is nature and in particular fungi, mushrooms and toadstools, common terms for the fruiting bodies we see in urban places and the countryside.
He originally came from a market town in the south west, where industrialisation was small and sparse, so when he came to Bradford it took his breath away, seeing the heritage left by the woollen trade.
Ian: “I remember arriving at the Interchange and catching a bus along Manningham Lane, passing the first big Bradford ‘pit’ that was the former site of Busby’s Department store, with chickens roaming the earthen floor. Since then I have roamed and explored Bradford and West Yorkshire extensively and I can truly tell you I love it!”
