8th March was International Women’s Day and, as we do every year, we broadcast Radio Venus – a full day of women’s broadcasting on BCB. We broadcast a wide variety of programmes on the day and you can listen to them all below!

7-8pm Keep Being You

BCB celebrates International Women’s Day 2023 with a day of fine female broadcasting.Getting you into the IWD groove with Jenny and Reyhana and their choice of music!

8-9pm Venus Rising

Join Maria Spadafora and guests to get the IWD party started!

9-10am Standing Up, Standing Out

Carole Moss talks to Bradford photographer Shy Burhan and five of the women who are part of her ‘Women in Uniform’ exhibition.

10-12pm About Bradford

Shamim Akhtar and Shamarley Fonatine celebrate IWD with a lively array of Bradford women dropping into the studio. With a live link to the IWD event at the Equity Centre.

12-1pm Resilient Women

Join Sahar to hear the experiences of two amazing local immigrant women here in the UK

1-2pm IWD Roundtable

Cath Weber discusses issues of safety with a fine panel of Bradford Women (Million Women Rise, Can we trust the police? FGM, Women doing sport, The safety of women on line, gassing of young women in schools in Iran)

2.15-3pm I Am Woman!

Shamarley Fonatine and Tina Rowe discuss the joint taboos of periods and the menopause – with Dr. Virgina Beckett and members of the Venus team.

3-4pm One To One

Alison Lowe, Deputy Mayor for West Yorkshire, is Carole Moss’ s guest on One to One – expect some tears!

4-6pm IWD Bradford & Beyond

Peg Alexander, Maureen Grant and Malaika Ahmed host a fabulous line up of Bradford’s finest women!

6-6.30pm Open Minds

A women’s view of Mental Health with Nita Kaur and Naomi Dennison from the Open Minds team

6.30-7pm The Marrow Of Life

Malaika Ahmed and friends delve between the lines in the world of books!

7-8pm Gupshup!

Topical chat for IWD with Ghazala Khalid and Shabana Butt.

8-9pm Inspiring Creativity

Join Shamim Akhtar, Usma Kazi and the team from Inspiring Creativity for an exploration of the importance of creativity and well being.

9-10pm Abi’s Obscurities

An IWD special with Abi Swift as she profiles local women musicians from Bradford and Beyond!

10-11pm Sisters Of Soul

Maureen Rowe and Sandra Rowe are back with the best of Soul women.
