For your diary – reggae films at the National Media Museum

Made In Jamaica – Documentary with: Elephant Man, Gregory Isaacs, Bounty Killer, Lady Saw, Toots, Bunny Wailer -  Three showings from Saturday 28 November to Thursday 3 December

Rockers – with Leroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace, Gregory Isaacs, Robbie Shakespeare – Sunday 22 November at 6.15pm only.

One Love – Friday 20 and Thursday 26 November

The National Media Museum website www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk is, as usual, pants and fails to give info, but the film programme for October and November can be downloaded here www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/pdfs/filmguide_octnov.pdf – see page 20.

I’ve seen Rockers, and recommend it – the camera takes a shine to Leroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace, and reggae fans will spot many legends amongst the cast. It features that lovely clip of Burning Spear sitting on the beach at night and singing an acapella version of Jah No Dead, as the waves roll in and out.

And the Leeds International Film Festival 4-22 November
Am overwhelmed by the number of films, so any recommendations would be welcome.

About Rob

Rob co-founded BCB with Mary Dowson, back when the hills were young and it were all flat caps an chappatis round 'ere. It was known as Bradford Festival Radio then, and thanks to the generosity of Dusty Rhodes we got started. Now he takes photos, puts little silver discs in drawers, mumbles into microphones, and walks on the hills. Keep On Blowin..
