RIP Gregory and Ari

We’ll be playing tracks to mark the deaths of two unique musical talents on this week’s Bradford Beat.

Ari Up, of the ground-breaking post-punk band The Slits, died last week – and this week we also lost reggae legend Gregory Isaacs.

This week’s Bradford Beat, broadcast on BCB 106.6FM from 8pm – 9pm on Thursday, 28 October, will also feature a couple of spooky tunes to get you in the Hallowe’en mood.

Full tracklisting:

The Slits – Typical Girl

Looking back…still

While we’re still gazing back over the past decade (just), here’s a reminder of the previous four Christmas Countdowns – our pick of Bradford Beat’s favourite 20 tracks of the year – going back to 2005.

It’s nice to see some bands have become almost regulars – The Lodger, Roger Davies and The Futureheads among those appearing more than once.

But whatever happened to The Old House? Or AFS?

Albums of the decade

It’s the last Bradford Beat of the decade – even though it doesn’t feel quite as momentous as moving from, say, the 70s to the 80s as we don’t really have a universally-agreed name for the decade just ending or the one beginning!

Either way, over the next two shows we’re playing tracks from our favourite albums from the last 10 years – there are so many I just couldn’t fit them into one show!

So expect the likes of Radiohead, The White Stripes, Just Sullivan, The Strokes, Cornershop, Embrace, Futureheads and lesser known bands such as Malibu Stacey, The Blueskins, Clearlake and Reindeer Section.

Bradford Beat is on air at 8pm every Thursday, repeated at 7pm on Sundays.
