Competition: Win new Bradford album

We’ve extended the deadline for our competition to win the fantastic vinyl compilation album The Hare and The Bull.

Nagbea from Sound Shack was our studio guest on Bradford Beat this week talking about the great new release which features the likes of The Sentimentalists, Nick Toczek, Negative Pamda and Jed’s Blues Band.

To enter, just email me at simon.ashberry@bcbradio.co.uk with your answer to this question: What was the 13th track on Sound Shack’s first ever release “13 For 2013” (released in January 2013)?

We’ll now choose the winner on Thursday 24 April. There’s no Bradford Beat that night as BCB will have live coverage of Bradford Bulls v Leeds Rhinos.

But you can listen again to this week’s show by clicking here

Here are the tracks we played:

St Vincent – Prince Johnny
Gerard Bell-Fife – No Difference
Junk Dealers – Bad Vibrations
Tinfoil Sojourns – Cohort of a Martinet
The Word – Schoolboy Saint
Maximo Park – Midnight On The Hill

Eclectic Mainline 11th July 2012

This morning I thought today’s might be my last ever show on BCB.  After Chris Moyles announced he was leaving the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, I felt sure Ben Cooper would be on the phone offering me the role… but no, someone called Nick Grimshaw got the call.   So, much to everybody’s surprise, I’m still here!

Ahem, so, on with the business in hand…

New James Yorkston album

Today I saw this new James Yorkston video, which precedes his new album, I Was A Cat From A Book.  The special edition of the album looks utterly amazing. The video is precisely what musicians should be doing in the digital age, in my view.  Good work James, and good work Domino Records.

Frankie Rose competition

This week we’re giving away tickets to see Frankie Rose at the Brudenel Social Club on Tuesday 24th July, plus a copy of her new album, Interstellar. To be in with a chance of winning, simply answer this question:

Frankie Rose is from Brooklyn.  Brooklyn is a district of which city:

  1. York
  2. New York
  3. Bradford

Post your answer as a comment on this blog, or tweet @bcbradio by Tuesday 17th July 2012.  The winner will be announced on my show on Wednesday 18th July.

New Christian Fennesz soundtrack album

Also in tonight’s show was a new tune by Christian Fennesz, taken from his marvellous new soundtrack to the film AUN – The Beginning and the End of All Things:

The BCB Sessions – 21st April 2010

Greetings people,

I’m in very fine spirits today – we’ve just had The Duke and the King in for a session and they blew me away.  I say we because  I did the organising, tea making, hugging and grinning and Alb did the nob twiddling – playing to our respective strengths (Alb don’t edit this bit – it’s serious and true).

Anyway, the hairs on the back of my neck are still standing on end! They’re now on the way to Leeds for tonight’s gig and Alb’s busy recording another musical gem with Hannah Lou and Trevor Moss.  La vie est belle.

Tonight’s show’s already been lovingly prepared for you – because I’m off to tap my feet, nod my head and swoon over our session guests. So I can reveal tonight’s tunes (Wed 21st):

Two Door Cinema Club – Something good can work
New Young Pony Club – Lost a girl
Cate Le Bon – Shoeing the bones
Owen Pallett – Lewis Takes Off His Shirt
Royal Bangs – War Bells
Yeasayer – O.N.E.
Stars and Sons – If it’s good for me
Bonobo – The Keeper ft. Andreya Triana
Emika – Double Edge
Rex – My Baby Left Me
The Duke and the King – Still Remember Love
MGMT – Flash Delerium
Hot Chip – One Life Stand
She and Him – In the sun
Bonobo – We could forever

All summery – all great. Will keep you posted re: forthcoming session guests so don’t go away.

On next week’s show – already in the pipeline - I’ve got details of a fab competition for local bands to bag themselves  a spot at Moor Music Festival plus a preview of Live at Leeds. Oh, Alb and I are working on a Rough Beats Festival preview in early May. Huza!
