Radio Buffet #14

Bloody Nora, Emma Bob 3 left me with a major earworm when we recorded this show – Starship perforated my brain for a couple of days, and it wasn’t pleasant, as that bass sound is particularly offensive to me. Hope you weren’t left with the same problem.

Plus I would like to apologise for my totally inaccurate description of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, as it’s seven deadly exes, not ex-boyfriends. Huge blunder, sorry.

And soz for running out of time and playing a mere millisecond of Dam Mantle’s Rebong – next month, listeners! But enough of apologies as there was also plenty of aceness! So here’s what we did play…

Theme from Crossroads
Colourmusic – Yes
Nancy Sinatra – These Boots Are Made for Walkin’
Marnie Stern – For Ash
Sky Larkin – Still Windmills
ELO – Mr Blue Sky
Crash and the Boys – I’m So Sad, So Very, Very Sad
Crash and the Boys – We Hate You Please Die
Rufus Thomas – Itch and Scratch
The Crayonettes – Hopscotch
Sailor – Girls Girls Girls
Sweet Baboo – Wish I Was Made Out of Steel
Beck – Ramona
The Selecter – On My Radio
50FootWave – Clara Bow
Starship – We Built This City

NEXT MONTH! Radio Buffet is one year old, plus it’s Emma Bob 3’s birthday, so we are celebrating! Jenny Jet, Little Spads and The Bet Lynch Mob will be joining us in the studio – so flippin exciting! Join us on Saturday 6th November.

We love you.

Radio Buffet #13

Firstly, apologies for going on and on about my bras. Though I like to think we at Buffet offer an element of public service broadcasting, and of myself as a twisted Miriam Stoppard. Next month = tampons.

Secondly, here’s what we played on Radio Buffet on Sat 11th Sept (repeated on Monday 13th at 10am)…

Theme from Starsky & Hutch
Blondie – X-Offender
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Hot Boys
The Libertines – Campaign of Hate
Sufjan Stevens – From the Mouth of Gabriel
Anibal Velazquez – Mambo Loco
Duchess Says – La Friche
Death From Above 1979 – Sexy Results
Nadine Shah – All That I Want
David Soul – Ex Lover (rubbish!)
Thin Lizzy – The Boys Are Back In Town
Magic Arm – Bootsy Bootsy
Arctic Monkeys – Mardy Bum
Girls Aloud – Biology
Cate Le Bon – Me Oh My

And our background music came courtesy of James Last’s Hansimania. And you may have also heard the intro from Spinning Wheel, as performed by Harry Stoneham playing the Hammond My Way.

RADIO BUFFET#10

Do you know, we were so busy chatting away behind the scenes on our radio show that we forgot to name-check Those Dancing Days and Caribou, which is very rubbish of us. And Those Dancing Days deserve special mention as they lead the Wichita girl-pop revolution, a revolution that should be acknowledged. Germaine Greer made a point of saying there still aren’t many women in bands, when I went to see her in Halifax last week. I know what you’re saying, Germaine, I really do, but there are actually LOADS of fannytastic musicians out there – we have no trouble finding stuff to play on Radio Buffet. Anyroad, before I tell you what we did play on our radio show, let me share with you something Ms Greer did teach me that I never knew before. It’s a new term of endearment for ladyparts – Bearded Clams! Kept me amused for days that did…

Here’s what me, EmmaBob3 and Elias played – hope you enjoyed it:

Buffet

Blimey, since getting back from Hawaii we have been very excited to be back in the present day. Been listening to tons of new tracks for the new up coming show next month. So many ace tunes I’ve been discovering: Loka and Fredo Viola are getting lots of plays on my ipod. As are Two Door Cinema Club… So many choices and only an hour to fit it all into. Always start to get excited around now because Maria and I never know what each will bring to the studio when we do Buffet. So always get loads of ‘ooooh what is that you are playing madam, that is aces!’ moments. Right that’s me for now. Onwards for pop and glory.

The next Buffet show is on Saturday 24th of April, 5pm to 6pm.

Buffet in Hawaii circa 1961 – here’s what we played

Mr Magic

Temptations – Ball of Confusion
Colour Music – Yes
Tiny Masters of Today – K.I.D.S
Pavement – Stereo
Dodos – Fools
She Keeps Bees – Gimme

Barbara Dixon – January February
At this point Suzi Quatro rocks in and saves us from Demon Barbara
Turbo Fruits – Volcano
Waitresses – I Know What Boys Like
Fatima Mansions – Popemobile to Paraguay
The Laurel Collective – Jellyface

It was exhausting being time-travelled to Hawaii circa 1961 by our nemesis Barbara Dixon, but at least we got to meet Elvis!
